You can assign a landing page to your own domain in the Smartpages platform. A free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate will be automatically installed for your domain when you add a domain to your account.
This guide will show you how to set up a domain registered via IONOS by 1&1. Before you manage the DNS records, add the domain in Smartpages.
Add DNS records in 1&1 IONOS
- Log in to your 1&1 IONOS account.
- Go to the My Products section and select Domains & SSL.
Redirecting a root domain
- Click the gear icon under Actions next to the domain you want to redirect and select DNS.
Add two new DNS records (CNAME and A) if you want to redirect a root domain.
Click on Add Record, then select the A type and later the CNAME type.
Enter the following data:
Type A
Host Name: @
Points to: 174.129.25.170
Type CNAME
Host Name: www
Target: cname.smartpages.com.
If you have other A records, delete them.
Redirecting a subdomain
- You have to first create a subdomain to redirect it to Smartpages. Click on Add subdomain under the Quick Links menu.
Type in a subdomain name – www or any other. Click on Save.
Click the gear icon under Actions next to the subdomain you want to redirect and select DNS.
Select on Add Record, then click on the CNAME type.
Enter the following data and click Save.
Type CNAME
Host Name: www or any other
Target: cname.smartpages.com.
- When you are ready, go back to Smartpages and click on Done.
You will see a pop-up message that the configuration is done.
Our system is verifying if DNS redirections have been done correctly. During this time, a clock icon will be visible next to the domain with the information that the domain is being verified. Usually, the domain will be active a few hours after adding it, but the total waiting time depends on the number of domains in our system waiting in the queue to install the certificate. We will email when the domain is installed correctly.
IMPORTANT: Due to the time needed for the dissemination of DNS records and installation of the SSL certificate, we recommend performing the above steps at least 3 days in advance of the campaign. If you want to use Cloudflare at the same time, please have a look here.
